Nikon D300
TThe top of the “prosumer” Nikon line at the moment is the 12 megapixel D300, which improves on the well-received D200 in several areas: 100% frame coverage through the viewfinder, LCD Live View on a 3″ screen, ISO up to 6400 with excellent quality even in the higher range, and 14-bit analog-to-digital conversion for smoother tonal gradations, especially in RAW files. And speaking of RAW, the Nikon EXPEED processor can compress 14-bit NEF RAW files as you shoot.
So what is this capable camera missing that is found in the top-of-the-line D3? Primarily, the D300 lacks the full-frame sensor found in the D3 and D700.

Selected Editor’s Choice January 2008. “Great performance and class-leading photo quality.
Those looking to get involved with high-end or professional photography should pay special attention to this camera.
The D300 beats both the 40D and the A700 in terms of high ISO performance.

2007 Camera of the Year. “No camera both refines and redefines photography as well as the Nikon D300
“To me, the D300 doesn’t feel like an upgrade; it feels like a whole new camera from the ground up. The improvements are that significant.”
The Nikon D300 is the world’s best amateur camera. Forget the old D2Xs, which sells used for about the same price today. The D2Xs is 2004 technology that predates the D200!
The D300 nearly matches that resolution at the old DX-size recording a 12.3 megapixel image with a 1.5x crop factor.
The time-frame between models may have halved, but Nikon’s certainly not skimped on the D300’s capabilities. It features a new 12.3 Megapixel CMOS sensor, 6fps continuous shooting, a new 51 point AF system, 3in screen with VGA resolution
