Canon EOS 50D
Just before the Photokina 2008 show, Canon launched the hotly anticipated follow-up to the Canon EOS 40D - the EOS 50D! It looks quite similar to the camera it replaces, but a 15 mpx sensor, a bigger monitor (with Live View, of course), ISO sensitivity up to 12800 (wow!) and a beefy DIGIC 4 image processor are lots of little increases designed to increase Canon’s lead over the competition.
We’ll keep you posted when we have more on this little beauty - and, of course, when the first reviews start trickling in!

No surprises to hear that Canon has launched the much anticipated EOS 50D, an upgraded version of EOS 40D. On the surface it looks almost similar to its predecessor
The Canon EOS 50D is also a very fast camera. Not only will this little beauty shoot at a speed of up to 6.3 frames per second, but it will maintain this speed for up to 90 JPEGs when using a UDMA card.
the 50D will be able to maintain burst speeds close to the 40Ds. And now that the camera’s CompactFlash supports UDMA, the burst buffer can process more shots–JPEGs, at least.
A newly designed 15.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor delivers ultra-detailed, low-noise images – ideal for large-scale reproduction or creative cropping
There has been quite a bit of discussion about the AF functionality of the 50D - so far mostly speculation since no-one has had a production camera to test
Everyone should know by now that increasing the number of pixels doesn’t automatically mean better image quality. On a basic level, adding more pixels to the same size sensor means smaller pixels and more noise.
The EOS Cleaning System which has been integrated in the Canon EOS 50D - including the improved Self Cleaning Sensor Unit with a new fluorine coating - increases protection of image quality by helping to reduce, repel and remove unwanted dust from the sensor
Canon has built upon the success of the popular EOS 40D model – which will remain in Canon’s line – with the EOS 50D Digital SLR camera.
It’s fairly obvious that the EOS 50D is on its way out into the world, especially considering those pics and specs we just caught wind of.
The EOS 50D Digital SLR camera’s 15.1-megapixel CMOS APS-C size image sensor has been improved thanks to the use of newly designed gapless microlenses over each pixel to reduce noise and expand sensitivity up to ISO 12800.
The Canon EOS 50D is a worthy update to the already excellent EOS 40D, equipping it not just with the latest features, but also a significant boost in resolution without compromising noise levels
Serious amateur and semi-professional photographers are the target market for the Canon EOS 50D
